Writing an article or blog can take a toll even on the most productive of writers. From ideation to the actual writing, it is a very time consuming and long process.

Have you ever wished that there were more hours in the day to help you finish more blogs? Also, wouldn’t you really like to enjoy some free time? If you do, it is probably a cry for help. The following tried and tested hacks will help you to write more in less time.

Here we go…

#1 – Write early morning to achieve more

Did you know that all popular and successful writers share a common morning routine? They write! They all wake up early and the first thing that they do is write.

You can also make it a habit to start writing in the morning (before you check your emails, social media accounts and so on). Also, morning is the time when you are at your creative best. You can clean the cobwebs of your creativity by jotting down all your ideas and thoughts. As the day goes by, even the best writers suffer from writer’s block.

Also, you can take advantage of this really cool Chrome app called StayFocused. What does it do? Well, it helps you to stay focused on your writing by limiting your time on certain websites. This way, you will be able to concentrate more on your topic and less on what is happening on Facebook or others.

And if you actually think about it, isn’t morning really the best time to write? It is peaceful, quiet and you are also full of energy after a good night’s sleep.

If you really want to write faster, why not put your bursting morning energy to the task.

#2 – Focus on being a disciplined writer

It all starts with a good plan. Doesn’t it? Why should it be any different when you are writing? Create a solid writing schedule (and of course, stick to it!) to stay ahead of the game. Commit to the schedule and promise yourself that no matter what, you will follow the schedule. Even if different tasks pop up, make an effort to minimize them and get back to work.

If you need some help, you can check out Trello. This is an amazing task organizer application that will help you to plan everything ahead.

A disciplined approach is going to definitely help you to improve upon your writing speed and also suppress your subconscious thoughts. With time, you will notice that you no longer need to stick to a program, but you are doing it unconsciously.

#3 – Create a detailed outline before you begin to write

How many times has it happened that you started writing on one thing, but went on to something completely different? (I used to face this a lot.)

This is something that most writers struggle with. However, there is a simple solution to this problem. Instead of going freestyle, take a closer look at what you are going to write about and spend a few minutes in creating an outline. How can you do that? By jotting down all your ideas, you will be able to give your writing structure, even before you begin writing.

The outline is going to make your job a lot easier because then you will only have to follow a roadmap. Everything you need is already there and you basically have to just connect the dots together. Easy, right?

#4 – Do not make the mistake of editing while you write

Sure, you can multi-task and you are good at it. But, if you think you will edit while you are writing, you are basically making things difficult and slow for you. The strategy you must adopt is minimal use of backspace. Yes, sounds crazy, but it really does work. It is a blessing in disguise, actually.

So, what you do is, just keep writing even if you see mistakes. Just don’t stop. All of that will be taken care at the end. Your sole focus must be on your writing. Put down all your ideas real quick and do not edit anything. Done? This is going to be your first draft.

Now that you are done writing, go over and edit the mistakes that you see. Do you know the best part? While editing, you will also find yourself adding new ideas and words to it. But, this would not have been possible if you are still wrestling with an idea!

#5 – Can’t concentrate? Stop writing!

There is actually an awesome explanation to this. Often times when you are trying to come up with an idea, but all you are doing is drawing the blank, it is best to just leave what you are doing and do something else. There is no point banging your head for hours only to come up with nothing. Instead, grab a cup of coffee or go for a walk. Clear your head. You’ll be surprised to know the sheer number of ideas that come during a coffee or stroll break.

Just like many other skills, writing too can be improved. If you follow the above-mentioned really effective strategies, you might be able to improve your writing skills, along with enhancing your speed. If you do not succeed at the first attempt, do not give up. Some of the best writers have mastered these techniques after several tries. So, there is nothing to feel ashamed about.

Another thing that you must remember is that repetition is key here. You cannot just stop applying these strategies after a few days. After all, practice is what makes one perfect. Try turning these strategies into habits and you will surely reach the heights of success.

And most importantly, never quit!

Have you thought of what you will do with all the time that you are going to save? Have you already implemented some of the mentioned hacks? Do you have any tips to offer budding writers? Please feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions.
